Agility History (as supplied by Sara Jenkins)

Back to History page

Our club's first AKC agility title was earned by Ronni Delay and Border Collie, Jet in 1995.

In June of 1995, Sara Jenkins earned NA titles on Belgian Tervuren Charger (CH Hi Times Mastercard HIC HT CDX AD CGC NA) and his daughter Luna (Jimara's Astral Sojourn CGC CD OAJ MX NJP).

When AKC started agility, the MX title was the highest obtainable. They added the JWW (Jumpers with Weaves) class a few years later and on Feb 2, 1999 the MACH program came into place.

Kathie Attwood's Shetland Sheepdog Maverick (UCD Sunridge Top Gun VCD2 MX NJP TDI CGC HIC) was the first dog in GLTC history to earn the MX title, doing so in June of 1999. Luna earned her MX in December of the same year in Cleveland, while John Fowler and Border Collie, Nolie, added it the following year.

The 4th MX was earned in November 2000 at the AKC Agility Nationals by Sara Jenkins and Zar (CH Prelude's Time For Yesterday CGC CD HIC MX MXJ) who was also the club's first MXJ. In 2001 Sara and Zar again competed at the AKC Agility Nationals and were 14th in the 24" class thru the 3rd round of 80+ dogs.

Sara Jenkins and Chakotay (MACH2 KJ's Commander at Jimara CGC CD RE NF) earned his first title (NA) at 16 months in Sept 2001. He completed 5 more agility titles in 2002, and earned his MX & MXJ along with his CGC and CD in 2003. He was rated #1 Sheltie in Open agility in 2002 by Front and Finish. Chakotay completed his first MACH at GLTC's trials in March 2004 and his MACH2 in Dayton in October 2005.

Other notable agility dogs in GLTC's history: Phyllis Belew's Tweed earned her MX & MXJ as well as her MACH. In April 2003, Sara Jenkins and Belgian Tervuren, Re (Prelude's Drop of Golden Sun CGC TDI MX MXJ HICs HTs RA) began her agility career. She completed her MX & MXJ in January 2005.
